About

Normal Moments is a non profit organization, who helps proving supportive services for families with critically ill or medically-complex children with meals and meal delivery for extended hospital stays, volunteers who provide support with household tasks, as well as seasonal programs and events.organization offers a wide variety of help to families, including meals and meal delivery to families during extended hospital stays. It also provides volunteer support with household chores, and seasonal programs. Normal Moments is run entirely by volunteers. Unlike any other organization, Normal Moments offers small, truly helpful gestures. With this project, we have redesigned normal moments' website in an effort to help them resolve their issues.

Challenges - Problem Statement

Here are some of the challenges faced by Normal Moments as an organization in providing these services to families.

  • The services Normal Moments provides, such as yard work, are not easily translated into compelling content
  • Many families who receive support from Normal Moments don't know who they received support from
  • Difficult to find enough volunteers to serve the number of families who need support
  • Benchmarking is not possible, which makes it difficult to secure corporate donations

Research

We executed our research in three parts :

Research Findings

Our Research findings uncovered three major problems :

  1. Website Issues

  2. Schedule Conflicts

  3. Personal Preferences

Survey Analysis & Research Finding

Insights uncovered during the research phase

Our research uncovered following insights :

  1. Normal Moments' website does not accurately reflect its value and uniqueness
  2. Flexible time commitments may help increase volunteer participation.
  3. Delegating administrative responsibilities may create a better, more responsive organization
  4. Calling a volunteer a "David" causes confusion and gender/exclusion issues.
  5. Hearing families' stories has the biggest impact on volunteers and donors.

Site Map and Information Architecture Testing (IA) :

Using treejack, we tested the new navigation structure with our proposed sitemap. Based on our analysis of results, we found the following:

90% Success

Among the 10 participants, 9 found the volunteer page successfully.

70% Success

Among the 10 participants, 7 found the services page successfully.

Usability Testing :

Prototype Testing

We asked our particapants following question and asked them to navigate through the website to test our prototype :
You need someone to clean your house so that you can spend time with your sick child. How would you request help from Normal Moments?

Success Metrices :

We asked our particapants following question and asked them to navigate through the website to test our prototype :

Usability Breakdown :

Average time spent by participants on one single screen was 15.2 seconds and 13% was mission's average misclick rate
